It may be old news in internet time, but we recently announced Age of Empires 3. Hooray! More specific info and some screenshots on our site for it.
Corporate shilling aside, I can't really say anything beyond what's in the press release. I'm quite confident that more info about the game from various sources will be forthcoming in the future, however...
I'm not actually directly involved on Age 3, though I do playtest regularly and stay pretty closely in tune with how the project is going (both from a technical and design perspective). I'm quite looking forward to playtesting more in the upcoming months. It's always fun to play our games in development -- I have some very fond memories of Age of Myth playtests. But because I'm not living and breathing it every day I can be a little more of a "fanboy" and enjoy playing the game without being as mired down in the incomprehensibly vast minutae that goes into actually making games of this complexity.
When I first started at Ensemble, it was a few months before Age of Kings shipped. I had been closely following the game as a fan, so getting the chance to really dig in and play it those last few months before ship was incredible. It was some great "immersion learning" for starting to understand some of the complexities of making an RTS (which are many and vast indeed). Also it was my first real experience with understanding Ensemble's processes for polishing and balancing a game, something that continues to be a major focus for us at the company and that I got to know painfully well working on Age of Myth.
Ok, enough nostalgia! If you want to dig up more info on Age 3, I recommend surfing the various fan sites for lots of speculation, rumor, and other fun activities. Also the PC Gamer on shelves now has scads of great info.
After a brief respite, the hit parade of great new releases is at it again. Hearts of Iron 2 was last week (which I'm really digging and want to write more on at some point). This week is a nightmare though (in a great way): Zelda: Minish Cap, Mercenaries, Getaway: Black Monday, Resident Evil 4, and Suikoden 4. All of which I really want to play... not that my WoW addiction is allowing much time for that!
Mercenaries in particular looks quite interesting. It looked quite fun at E3. Also, they have a very humorous ad campaign that had my wife laughing out loud. Not quite as great ads as my personal all time favorites, the Ratchet & Clank ads, but close.
